End of the Summer Social

  • U.S. Southwest Soaring Museum 918 U.S. Route 66 Moriarty, NM, 87035 United States (map)

Event Recap

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, the Land of Enchantment (LOE) Chapter held their End of Summer social at the U.S. Southwest Soaring Museum in Moriarty, NM.

Twenty-three LOE members and supporters joined together to visit the museum, experience the exhibits, try out the simulator, and meet with their fellow aviation enthusiasts.

Members learned about soaring opportunities in the area, and why New Mexico makes one of the best locations for glider training from our guests from Sundance Aviation and the Albuquerque Soaring Club.

Vice President, Jessi Rowden gave a briefing of the year’s events, volunteer activities, and the upcoming Girls in Aviation Day on September 24, 2022.

Jill Meyers, our founding member, and representative of Athena’s voice presented chapter member and essay contest winner Beth Ramirez with a Phoenix Barbie from the movie “Top Gun”.

Three scholarships, totaling $2500 were awarded to Daisy Belmares-Ortega, Charlotte Kaminski, and Maria Vianco. Congratulations, ladies!

A huge thank you to our sponsors! A Turbine Level Sponsorship plaque was presented to our newest chapter sponsor, Cutter Aviation, and we recognized our other amazing sponsors – Albuquerque International Sunport a Starship Level sponsor, and Virgin Galactic a Jet Level sponsor and contributor to our upcoming Girls in Aviation Day.

Museum entry fee and refreshments were sponsored by chapter member Daniel Sharpes, of Sharpes Aero.
